Structural Leak Repair

Running water is a luxury we have lived with for such a long time in Florida that it is now a modern convenience upon which many of the activities of our everyday lives depend. Most of us use our showers, toilets, faucets, washers, dishwashers, and more without giving the pipes that deliver our water a second thought, but when these pipes begin to leak, we need to do much more than just think about them: we need to repair them as soon as possible for the sake of the safety and security of our homes.

Structure Repair Services

At Solid Foundations, we know that water is such a vital part of our lives that we often don’t even think about it, but if our water supply becomes a problem that threatens the health and safety of our homes and families, we won’t be able to think of anything else. The mission of Solid Foundations is to help people by solving their problems, and that is why Solid Foundations provides expert pipe and structure repair services to solve the problem of leaking or broken pipes. In order to restore an appropriate relationship with water in your home, we apply two major types of Prime Resins polyurethane resin products to our leak repair projects: hydrophilic grout and hydrophobic grout.

Hydrophilic Grout

For slow and steady or fast and rushing leaks, Solid Foundations employs hydrophilic grout, as this type of low viscosity resin can penetrate the cracks to ensure that the leak is repaired despite the presence of water. Hydrophilic chemical grouts are actually attracted to water, and so when they encounter a small or weeping leak, they move toward the source of the water by following the path of the crack in the pipe until they reach and seal the leak.

When applying hydrophilic grout to a gushing leak, Solid Foundations understands the importance of giving the resin time to set. The setting time offers the hydrophilic grout the chance to react with the water coming from the leak and to expand fast enough to transform into a watertight, solid section of foam before the water from the leak washes the grout away. Solid Foundations supplies the hydrophilic grout with enough time to set by using catalysts or activators such as a hydraulic cement patching material. Solid Foundations also works with hydrophilic grout in order to guarantee a successful seal because of the high expansion rate that hydrophilic grout demonstrates, which allows the resin to completely cover the leak. The high expansion rate of hydrophilic grout also enables it to fill any voids behind below-grade structures where gushing leaks are present, and by filling these voids, the hydrophilic grout creates a 360-degree shield for the pipe.

Hydrophilic grout stops leaks in the cracks and joints of underground structures because the flexibility of the hydrophilic grout can maintain a tight seal despite the opening and closing of the cracks and joints due to temperature changes.

Hydrophobic Grout

When Solid Foundations needs to fill voids and stabilize soils, we turn to hydrophobic grout in order to accomplish these tasks without excavation. Hydrophobic grout repels water; therefore, when injected into voids and loose soils, it will replace any water present as it expands. Hydrophobic grouts have low viscosities and high expansion rates and are able to set without diluting in watery conditions. Therefore, whatever the conditions of the soil, this type of resin can conserve its size, strength, and impermeability. It is unaffected by fluctuations in the moisture content of the soil, so no matter what the water table does, hydrophobic grout will stay dry and solid.

Our polyurethane resin products solve leak problems in a variety of places that need waterproofing, such as:

  • Pipe joints
  • Box culverts
  • Storm sewers
  • Retaining walls
  • Seawalls
  • Below grade parking decks
  • Earthen dams
  • Manholes
  • Below grade concrete walls
  • Tunnels
  • Elevator service pits
  • Excavation pits
  • Sinkholes
  • Storage tanks
  • Pump stations
  • Utility vaults
  • Manholes
  • Swimming pools
  • Concrete basements

Causes of Leaking and Broken Pipes

The pipes under our houses that supply us with easily accessible running water every day can remain very functional for a long time, but certain factors can cause them to fail by leaving them leaking or broken. Pipes that have endured excessive corroding, aging, freezing, or thawing can give way to the pressure over time and begin to leak. Other outside influences that can injure or impair your pipes include:

  • Heavy Traffic
  • Improperly regulated pumps
  • High water pressure
  • Chemicals in the water
  • Poor pipe installation
  • Chemical drain cleaners
  • Tree roots
  • Shifting soil

Damage and Signs of Leaking and Broken Pipes

These types of forces can put great amounts of stress on your pipes that result in great amounts of damage, and that damage can be costly. The least that leaking pipes will do is waste hundreds of gallons of water, but the consequences of leaking or busted pipes can also extend to involve low water pressure, dirty drinking water, wet or damp spots on your floors, sudden spikes in your utility bills, cracks in nearby pavement, uneven floors, and even the weakening of your foundation and the leaning of your structure. All of these side effects of leaking pipes can endanger your home and your family, so when you detect the signs of a leaking pipe, do not hesitate to contact the professionals at Solid Foundations for our pipe and structure repair services. The numerous signs of a leaking or broken pipe consist of:

  • Unusually wet sections of landscaped areas
  • Moldy, mossy, or soft sections of landscaped areas
  • Water pooling on the ground
  • Brown, dead, or dying sections of an irrigated area
  • Sinkholes or potholes
  • Cracked or heaving pavements
  • Uneven floors
  • Leaning structures
  • Lowered water pressure
  • Rusty or dirty water in the water supply
  • Sudden increase in water use
  • Higher utility bills
